The mission of the Transitional Learning Charter is to prepare students from ages 18-22 years, to meet the challenges of the future as lifelong learners and responsible citizens.
In partnership with families and communities, the charter creates meaningful and diverse learning opportunities for all students, so they develop the knowledge, skills and character necessary to succeed.
Students attending the Hart/Golden Oak Learning Post campus will focus on the LCCE (Life Centered Career Education) curriculum. This includes focusing on daily living skills, personal social skills, and occupational guidance preparation.
Students will learn the SCV transportation system to travel to and from school and within the community.
Students will have the opportunity to work in the PAES (Practical Assessment Exploration System) lab with a supervisor to assess their working ability and interests.
There are several community service and volunteer opportunities.
TLC Hart/Golden Oak is the hub for community outreach including: Let Me Sail, Fun Life, Yes I can, and Special Olympics.
Students attending the College of the Canyons campus will pursue a college degree or certificate.
Students will travel through the community independently and must take at least one course per semester at COC.
Once at COC students will join the DSPS (Disabled Student Programs and Services) department, where they can have access to accommodation sheets, and tutoring labs.
There are weekly group counseling sessions as well as weekly community based and social activities.
